The L + S Country Fair

And why more corporates are turning to themed events

In recent years, corporate events have shifted from formal sit-down dinners to immersive experiences that spark connection, creativity, and joy. Companies are increasingly looking to themed events as a way to engage their people in fresh, memorable ways — and it’s easy to see why.

From Function to Experience

Gone are the days of a corporate party being just speeches and canapés. Today’s employees crave experiences that feel different from their day-to-day. A theme allows a brand to transform a venue into a playground — inviting guests to dress up, lean in, and engage more openly. It creates a shared memory that feels less like “work” and more like a celebration.

Case Study: Laing + Simmons Goes Country

One of our favourite recent examples was a Country & Western–themed event for Laing + Simmons. The brief was simple: create something fun, unexpected, and high-energy. When given the theme, we couldn’t go past The Farm at Byron Bay – it was the perfect rustic backdrop for our country fair. Guests were welcomed by a whip cracker and challenged to try their hand at axe throwing and lucky duck, before heading to a custom cowboy hat station to craft their own signature look. A roving sheriff kept the saloon in order, while a line dance class got everyone on their feet and moving together. The night closed out with a live country band, filling the dance floor and giving the event the energy of a true hoedown.

Why Themes Work for Brands
  • Immersion builds unity — Stepping into a themed world encourages guests to drop their guard and join in together.

  • Participation drives engagement — From throwing axes to dancing in cowboy boots, guests become part of the story.

  • Entertainment creates storytelling — Acts like whip crackers or sheriffs add layers of narrative, making the night more than just décor.

  • Memorability matters — A themed event leaves staff talking long after the party is over, strengthening company culture.

Beyond the Theme

At The Play Agency, we don’t just provide acts — we design experiences that align with brand values. Whether it’s the Wild West, a masquerade ball, or something never-seen-before, our role is to create entertainment that transforms a corporate function into an iconic celebration.
